Specimen Log A12: The Lanterner

Callsign, the Lanterner. Height unknown. Seen dragging moss across a threshold at 3:12 a.m. Humming, a low tonal loop, like rusted chimes.

The card was tucked in a drawer of the two-drawer catalog inside the wagon, among the observation logs and the specimen descriptions and the unfiled fragments. They do not appear when looked for, only when I forget I am watching.

I leave out scraps of song, moss, bits of wire. Some mornings, the pages have been rearranged.
